Sorry for the lack of updates lately, I have been really busy. Two weeks ago I took part in a NCCP BMX Coaching Certification program that was being held out here in Calgary. At first I thought it was going to be a waste of time and pretty boring but I actually had a great time and got a lot out of it. There were a number of top Road and Mountain Bike coaches that joined a few of us BMX guys and it was really rewarding to get to hang out with that caliber of cycling coaches. The course was a pilot program that was put together by a few different people including Ontario Cycling coach Brendan Arnold. Brendan is a cool guy and he will be helping me out with some camps out East this year.
Last weekend was the WNS race 1 & 2 out in Morley. I don’t really have the time to write up a big thing about the race so if any of you who went to the race and want to submit a race report on the weekend then please send it to me and I will post it.
All I have to say is that the Camp Cools team won on Saturday and 2nd on Sunday and we all had a great weekend. I raced on Saturday but crashed in my last round of practice right on my hip/back, which hurt too bad to ride on Sunday. Aaron Lepp won Elite men both days and the 10 expert class is the future of Canadian BMX, Period!!!!! Awesome racing by a lot of the older classes, if you weren’t there you missed out.

Had a really good weekend of riding last weekend and I was pretty bagged and wore out today. On Saturday I ran the last day of training that I will be doing in Morley and thank god! I’m over that place right now and wish that I would of never got involved with doing the training this past winter since after everything was said and done, I’m in the hole! It’s unfortunate that most people didn’t take advantage of all the training this winter as the ones who did really stepped it up. Thank you to all those who did support me, as most of you showed up even though it wasn’t free. I really appreciate your support and even though I’m sour about it, we still had a lot of fun with you guys and I hope you had fun with us.
On Sunday Aaron, Sam and I went out to get some training in and it was a fun session, I finally had somewhat of a gate. I am getting stronger everyday and hope that I can get out on the street and do a whole bunch of sprints between now and the Morley race. If I don’t feel fast enough then I don’t think I will race, it’s no fun being motto fill and I’m racing to have fun. With a good week and a half of training I should be ready to throw a few elbows in a couple of weekends.
I’m getting my New Zealand schedule together this week and will be able to start setting some dates for camps this summer. I plan on having a full schedule so please contact me to set up camps as the summer is filling up. So far I have about 10 2-day camps this year so my crew and I will be everywhere from BC to Ontario!

Got some big news tonight, as today was a really big day in my Coaching career. Today I sign my contract with Cycling New Zealand to be the Head Coach of their High Performance National Team consisting of Marc Willers and Sarah Walker. These two athletes really wanted me in their corner to help add what I bring to an already winning program. Both these athletes are ranked #1 in the World for Elite men and Elite Women respectively. I am positive with the level of these two athletes and the control they are giving me to mold the program that Beijing is going to be a great race.
My contract goes for the next 7 months thru the end of September so that after the Olympics we can go thru a debriefing stage and see where the program will head after that. They would really want me to sign on for a longer time frame but for now I will be running the program till the end of the Summer and then go from there. I will be flying out at the beginning of April for training in New Zealand and then on to the Super Cross race in Australia.
I will be going 2-3 weeks on the road and then 2-3 weeks home so I will be continuing with all of my Camp Cools camps here in Canada. It’s going to be a crazy busy summer but I am so pumped on heading up one of the best countries in the world to some potential medals.

Morley is back on this weekend, the good people of Airdrie BMX will be sponsoring this Saturday’s training. The camp will begin at 10:00 am and go to about 12:30pm, which will lead into open track practice till about 3:00pm. The coaching is open to every one of all skills and ages for a cost of $20 per rider or $25 for the coaching and open track. If you are a member of the Airdrie track then it is of no charge to you.
As of right now I don’t have anyone signed up for the High Performance training at 3:00pm but I am sure by the end of the day I will have a few. This training is more intense and only open to 10 riders at a cost of $50. Please email me to let me know if you are attending this session.
This will most likely be the last session of training in Morley this winter and the last session before the CCA Canada Cup race at the end of the month. If you are planning on racing this race you should really take this last opportunity of training.

Just got home from a recovery ride on my beach cruiser; it’s still a little cold outside to have really enjoyed it though. This morning Aaron and I went out to Morley to do some riding and get in some gates. I feel way better on my bike when I go around the track but still don’t have any power out of the gate. It’s going to take me another month or so before I really have any power on my bike, but it’s going to come. I love hearing all the people talk smack about me when they beat me out of the gate. Keep talking, eventually I will have a gate again and you’re going to be the first person I cut off, ha-ha.
The season is starting to fill up with camps so if you want me to bring my crew to a track near you then let me know. This year I am really pushing hard to book lots of 2-day camps all over Canada. If your track has not had us do a camp before or you want us back then please give me a shout. I ask to be paid for 35 kids and everything over that goes back to the track, a good way for the track to make a few bucks, and we do all the work.
