I’m currently on my way to Hamilton to take part in the JDS camp this weekend. There are about 25 athletes and 8 coaches that I will be ‘assisting’ by providing information to help increase everyones knowledge about BMX.
I have been without a computer for the past few days as mine took a dump. For the past 6 years I have never had an issue with one of my Macs until this week when I loaded up Windows XP to my computer, which I need to run programs for work. After 10 minutes on Windows and it crashes! I had to take it in and get it sorted out by the pros. No good…

I have been slacking pretty bad lately when it comes to my site. I’m going a mile a minute right now and certain responsibilities are more important than this blog. Have lots of stuff planned for the HP team that I am really excited about, hopefully we’ll be able to take it to the next level of our already-top Elites!
Last week I was down in Christchurch teaching a Coaches Camp and a regular camp(s) at a pair of the tracks in the city. Both tracks were pretty good and the kids who came out to the clinic were a lot of fun and have a ton of skills! Matt Davies also was in attendance, showing us what he could do. Trent and I had a great time, so thanks to all of you down there and especially to the Goodwin’s who took us in and showed some great hospitality!
We must have done a great job because I already have a second camp booked at the North Avon track in Christchurch, on February 20/21. I will post the hours of the camp in the next few days, however it will be two full days with Friday starting later in the day to work around the kids school schedule.
I have received a few comments regarding who my trainers are and why I don’t use the local kids. Just so that everyone is clear, I am the one who does all the coaching and teaching, the riders I chose to bring are there because they are great on their bikes and can perform all demonstrations under pressure with no worries.
As I travel the country, I will get to know more and more racers and will be using the local riders in areas that have them. However, it doesn’t matter if I bring Tom, Dick or Harry, I teach your kids and they have a blast.
A few weeks ago, I traveled down to the south of the South Island to Alexandra for the SI Champs. The place was gorgeous, truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Racing was really kicked back with not too many kids, but it ran smooth never-the-less. I spent the weekend with Mark Elliott and his family, it was a great time and Marks cool place in Wanaka was in a gorgeous area! We even got to go hang out a the schools pump-track and watch Marks son, Hamish, show me his skills. Thanks so much to the Elliott’s for their hospitality.
This week: the track up in Puni is almost done, the turns are all paved and although the track is still really rough , it can be ridden in some sections. I will be up there in the next few days to take some pictures but here is a link of Trent Woodcock hitting the Pro second straight the first time. Not great-but you gotta realize that the track was in horrible shape at this point, so he was going half the speed he normally would once it’s ready to-go.

I’m on my way to bed as I have an early flight in the morning to Alexandra on the South Island. This weekend is the South Island Championships and I’m flying down to see if I can spot some good talent as well as meet the people who are in the BMX scene. It’s going to be an interesting weekend, one that I am really looking forward to.
This past week, Tom Ritz-the UCI track builder who built the Olympic track, has been here putting together our Super Cross track in Puni. The track will be the first 9-straight BMX track ever built, with side-by-side Amature and Super Cross starting hills. On the men’s side they have jumps over the turns in the amateur sections. Looks like it’ll be a great track!
This will be the training track for the HP team, basically it’s my new office. I have a bit of input here and there should it be required, however, Tony T and company are helping Tom Ritz and they’ve got this under control. My job won’t start until theirs has finished and this will be the top training track I know of. It will be in league of its own once a roof is placed over it in a few months, and a addtional bonus is the back section has sets and sets of trails built up too!

I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year, and hope that everyone had a safe and fun night. It was a pretty laid back night for us Cools as I was pretty tired from the second day of camp, which turned out to be another great day. I must be getting old as we were in bed by 9:30pm! We spent New Years day (yesterday) out at the beach in the 32-degree weather, I’m hurting a bit today from my sunburn but I will manage, ha ha, the Canadians hate me right now! Sorry.
I’m really excited about the New Year, for the HP team I have lots of events and training camps scheduled for our build up to the Worlds in Australia. I will also be helping with the JDS team and other coaching aspects here in NZ, which I am really amped up about. There is a bit of confusion for my camp in the Christchurch area on January 14/15, this is a two-day camp that is being done on two tracks. The camp is designed this way so you will need to come to both, not one or the other, sorry. I put down $75 a day not thinking that it looked like two 1-day camps, my fault.
