We have moved countries and now are in Creazzo Italy for this weekends European Rounds 5&6. Last weekend was such a great weekend for us and we hope to build on it and get some more great results. As you probably know by reading Kurt and Sarah’s site, Kurt crashed on Sunday in his Semi (in 1st) and Sarah pulled off a 3rd place while Chatter Box continues to get better lap by lap.
I have to say that our accommodations are a step up from last weekend and we are all a lot more comfortable and enjoying a 4 star hotel. Even though our hotel in Klatovy was something out of a horror movie, I loved it. I think the Czech Republic is great and its very cheap, a perfect place to go for a holiday if you’re into old culture.
Tomorrow is going to be awesome for me as Jenn is flying in and joining us for the remainder of the trip. Having her come is kind of a thank you to her as she has done so much for me. She quit a job she loved (a good one too) left her friends, family and everything she knows so that we can move to New Zealand. There are not many women out there who would drop everything so their husbands can do what they love. Since we were in Canada before I came here Avrianna will be hanging out with my parents and Jenns parents for the week and a half. This will be our first trip together with no kid in almost 3 years so I am really excited, however I miss my kid more then I can tell you and Jenn is already missing her as well.
A huge thank you goes out to Marc Willers and Ryan Hollows who just surprised me with a room upgrade for Jenn and I that they paid for. I’m lucky to have the people around me that I do, you guys freaking rock!

Today was one of those days that reminds me why I love what I do. My team won 2 out of the 4 Elite classes here in Klatovy!
I think today is the day that Kurt Pickard has arrived in the sport of BMX and put his name on the map. Kurt owned Jr Elite today and won every lap out on the track. It was a tough class to win with the likes of Jelle van Gorkum from the Netherlands (who is crazy fast and 5 x UCI World Champ) and a bunch of other fast ass Euros. I’m so pumped for Kurt as I have been working with him since the day I got to New Zealand and know he is one of the hardest working athletes out there.
Not to be out done by her fellow Kiwi, Sarah rolled into the gate right after Kurt and won the women’s class with ease and style. For the past few days Sarah has been feeling like crap and today was the worst day so far. But, you would have never known by the way she was riding and took the victory and the big-check without breaking a sweat…sweet-as.
Matt Davies had a good day as well tearin’ up the first straight and being in the mix in the Elite class. He had a great first round and then got tangled up and crashed in his second motto, which ended his chance of transferring out. He impressed me big time with his gates and speed down the first straight and reminded me why I know this kid has a future with the big-dogs, better luck tomorrow Chatter Box!
Marc sat this weekend out with his bummed shoulder and will try to let it heal for a few more days. We did sprints this morning after breakfast to keep his legs moving but this track is just not safe enough for him to risk further injury. With the way his shoulder is, Marc is unable to lean back and manual without it popping out so we decided to take the weekend off. He will be ready for the Supercross race where he can tape it down and hold it into place and just jump everything. I know it’s eating him up watching everyone ride but its great to see him support his teammates the way he does. If he were racing I’m sure we would have won 3 out of the 4 classes as Marc is looking fast right now.

I have just a quick note for all of you Kiwi BMXers out there. The training program for the athletes who are going to the Worlds (and even if you’re not) has been posted up on their website. You should have received an email from BMXNZ regarding this, last week. I can’t say what site it is as this is for New Zealanders only, if you didn’t get the email then contact me.
The program is designed for you to PEAK at the World Championships so if you didn’t start it last week then don’t try to catch up, do the program on the day you start. The first few weeks are not as important as the last 2 month so it’s a must that you are on schedule even if you missed the first few weeks. Take the Strength Program that best suits you, from the site and put it into the schedule where is says “Strength Program”. Also, please don’t rush the Strength portion of the program. Start at level 1 and work on that until you are ready to go to the next. Level 4/5 is the HPP level-so if you are a young rider you still have years to master level 1, then onto level 2. You will have a greater benefit if you master the level rather then jumping to the next one.
As the program progresses it will become tougher and tougher and 3 weeks out of the Worlds you will have a rest week and then taper down to the race. Yes you will be resting before the worlds, you have to trust me on this one and sometimes less is more! I know there is a lot of Dads out there who won’t understand this, but that is why “I” wrote the program, haha.

Yesterday we left Switzerland to come to Klatovy Czech Republic. We have had a pretty interesting few days, including falling a few floors on an elevator and crashing to the bottom. You can check out Marc, Sarah’s and Kurt’s site for a more in depth story and for some pictures of the ghetto place we are staying. I guess you get what you get sometimes and it’s all part of the fun.
Today we had a short practice at the track here in Klatovy. The practice was pretty good as we rode with the Czech National team, but unfortunately the track is not the greatest. I guess they have had an insane amount of rain here this past month and 2 weeks ago the whole thing was under water. Even so, my team looked great out there. Sarah had no issues with the track and Kurt and Nige are both starting to come out of their shells more and more. These two have not had much international experience but they are handling it really well and making a few heads turn. Marc is also looking good but he is riding with a separated shoulder that put him out a few weeks ago. Since the track is so lippy and loose in some areas, it’s not doing him any good. He’s a tough kid though and is fighting thru the pain. He can’t even lift his arm above his shoulder but he just grits his teeth and bares it. I’m glad I got such a tough group of kids and not a bunch of sissy lala’s.
We are having a blast on this trip. There have been lots of funny and crazy things happen to us and it’s been fun to be around this group of riders and of course my right hand man, Ryan Hollows. Its crazy to think that this is the first of many road trips on our journey to the next Olympics in London. We had a lot of time off since Beijing and everyone is ready to get the next 3.5 years rocking. Tomorrow is the first official practice of the weekend so it should be good.

Its been a while since my last post but since the whole team is sitting in my room and updating their sites, I thought I would do mine and not look like a slacker.
Bubbas wedding last week was off the hook! The best party I have been to in a really long time. Congrats to Bubba and Kasey and I hope you guys have an awesome life together as a married couple. It was a blast to see all of my old friends from the USA as well as some Canucks who made the trip down (The Littles). The wedding was in a castle and the venue was gorgeous and worked out great. Mike Redman was the official announcer of the wedding, which was a lot of fun, nothing like having old Redbone announce the wedding parties entrance.
The week leading up to the wedding was a blast, as I was getting a little loose on a nightly base with Bubba, Mikey Day, Karl Clark, Deak Brown and a few non-BMXers who are just as cool. I must be getting old as the week of fun left my body feeling like crap.
The only bad thing about the wedding was that Jenn and Avrianna got sick before we left New Zealand and the day of travel took a toll on both of them. They were both sick all week and Jenn is still not feeling good. I guess that’s what you get when you travel from the other side of the world.
Currently, I’m hanging out in Agile Switzerland at the World Cycling Center. We’re in the middle of a 5-day training camp with the HP team. They’ve just resurfaced the track here and it’s so much better than last year, it flows so good right now. It’s always fun coming here cuz I get to see my sister and her posse who are some of the coolest people in our sport. On this trip are Marc Willers, Ryan Hollows, Sarah Walker and the two newbie’s Kurt Pickard and the loudest BMXer out there, Nige (Matt Davies). We will be here at the center until Wednesday, then we’ll fly to the Czech Republic for a European-round this weekend. On Monday we go to Italy for the week as next weekend is another European Cup. Following this we fly to Copenhagen for a week for the first Super Cross race of the season, which I am really looking forward to. Copenhagen has to be one of my favorite countries in Europe, it’s so pretty and the people are all very beautiful and happy. I saw some pictures of the track yesterday and it’s gonna be a knuckle-biter! This track is going to leave some skid marks in a few pairs of shorts if you know what I mean.
Tomorrow we are having another track session with the UCI team as well as the French National team so the practice is going to be crazy. Nothing like the best of the best banging elbows, I love my job!
