The last few weeks have been tough as I have been very sick and I was in the hospital for the last 2 days in some rough shape. About 3 weeks ago I developed an ulcer in my intestine from all the medication I am taking for my back. Well that ended up getting infected and then I picked up a gastro virus, which put me in a world of hurt for a few weeks. Then last week with my non-existing immune system I got a bad case of the flu on top of everything, and then developed a bacterial infection in my right lung. So it hasn’t been a fun 3 weeks but I think I’m coming right now, and 12 KG lighter. I guess there’s an upside to everything as I needed to loose some weight for my operation in a few weeks.
So if you have called or emailed me with no response over the past week I apologize but now you know why. I’m at home on bed rest right now but I will try to get back on it tomorrow and return a few phone calls and slowly get back at it.
I do have a few camps booked for the next 3 weeks. These will be the only camps I will be doing until February so if you are anywhere near these tracks then come check it out.
-Waitakere BMX – November 28/29 from 10-4 both days.
-Waiuku, Sunset Coast BMX – December 5/6 from 10-4 both days.

It’s been a few weeks since my last post and I have lots to say! My doctors have put me on some new meds which seem to work to some extent, however my brain doesn’t work as well as it should and updating my site is a tougher task these days.
I have finally set my surgery date to have my lower lumbar fusion. On Tuesday December 15 I will be getting this operation that will hopefully change my life. Apparently I will notice the difference as soon as I wake up from the operation. Fingers crossed! The Dr will be installing 6 titanium rods and a steel cage to replace my two disks that have completely ruptured. A few weeks post-op I’ll write about how it all went down and a few pictures to go with it. The days have started to be crossed off on the calendar and I’m so excited for this even though it’s going to cost a small fortune.
With only a few weeks before my surgery, I am booking dates for Camp Cools training camps for the month of November and beginning of December. I will be in New Plymouth on December 12/13 and I want to fill up my calendar before I go in for my operation. Please call me to set something up. 027-239-0518. First come first serve.
A few weeks ago I was at the North’s up in Cambridge. The sun was out and it turned into a great weekend for racing. My sister raced on the Saturday and hung out for the weekend and I’m already hearing a few rumors regarding her so let me clear-the- air:
-Samantha is NOT apart of the NZ HP Team
-Samantha is NOT becoming a NZ resident
-Samantha will NOT compete at the next Olympics for NZ
Sam is going to spend the summer here so she can train with Sarah, ride her bike, get to travel New Zealand and most importantly hangout with family. Since she will be here for the summer I will be doing an ALL GIRLS Talent ID camp here in New Zealand. With Sam and Sarah helping at this camp, for girls ages 12 and up, we’re aiming to help focus more attention on increasing the skills of the girls in NZ. I think it would be beneficial for girls to come and ride with two of the most experienced and top tier BMXers and to gauge where they fit into the mix. I’m still in the planning stage of this but as soon as I get more info I will send it on out.
Last week we had a 4 day High Performance Team training camp. It was the best one to date and we accomplished a lot. I noticed a major step-up in riding skills and a stronger mental approach in their training. Well done everyone!
We also had a new person join our team, John Cowell. John is doing his PhD and will be working with me to study BMX. As far as I know, this is the only BMX PhD research conducted so we will have an advantage with this cutting edge training for our riders. John will be a valuable asset in our success.
We had 4 new kids come to this camp; this was their first trip or campaign with the team. As most rookies get a bit of extra love from the ‘seniors’, these guys got it pretty good! If you see any of them around you’ll understand what I mean. All in good fun! The team liked having Sam around, as it was some fresh energy and her experience with BMX rubbed off on the younger kids on the team, it was great to see! We went paintballing and that was a blast, I want to do this each time if possible, as it is good team-bonding and fun exercise. I feel like everything is coming together well and I expect that if we keep this up and work together we’ll be ready to take on the rest of the world.
